Johan is the Founder & CEO of Bintang Capital Partners, an award-winning Southeast Asian impact investment firm based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Bintang Capital Partners is a signatory of the United Nations’ Principles of Responsible Investing and the Operating Principles of Impact Management. In May 2023, Bintang became the first private equity firm in Southeast Asia to achieve B Corp certification and became the first Southeast Asian investment firm to win a UN PRI Prize for its work in impact investing in 2024. Johan is also Deputy Managing Director of AHAM Capital, a leading independent Malaysian asset management group, and also chairs the Boards of TMK Chemical Berhad (a Bursa Malaysia listed Southeast Asian chemicals manufacturer and distribution company) as well as Wise Payments Malaysia (the wholly-owned Malaysian subsidiary of Wise PLC, an international remittance fintech group). Johan is also a passionate advocate for impact causes and serves on Boards of Trustees of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation (a scholarship provider under the Ministry of National Unity, Malaysia) and Impact Integrated (a youth catalyst organization under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Malaysia). He is also Honorary Treasurer and Executive Committee member of the Malaysian Leprosy Relief Association which collaborates closely with the Ministry of Health, Malaysia. Johan graduated with a BSc Hons in Economics from the London School of Economics, which he attended as a UK Government Chevening Scholar. He is also a Fellow Chartered Accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder. Johan holds both the Certificate in Sustainable Investing under the CFA Institute, and the CFA Society UK Impact Investing Certificate.
